JFK's birthplace/childhood home [Brookline, MA] opens today for its 2010 season! To celebrate what would have been JFK's 93rd birthday on May 29th, they're holding a weekend celebration, there's free admission + music and cake!
Ahhh, that is so awesome! I wish I lived on the east coast for awesome events such as this. Whoever lives in Massachusetts and has time, definitely check this out!
Are there any biographies in particular that you would recommend for Jack, Bobby and Teddy? I always go to the shelves in bookstores and then turn immediately around because there's just SO MANY to choose from.
I would say the quintessential book on Teddy would absolutely be his autobiography. Of course whatever you get in that book is undoubtedly going to be subjective and you may not get what so many believe to be “the whole truth”, but to hear the contents of his life straight from the tone of his voice is a delight you can’t have with his other siblings - it reads as if you’re really having a conversation with him. You get a lot of intimate knowledge not only about his own personal quirks, but adorable things his family did that only he has private knowledge in, which sheds light on the true character of either Jack or Bobby, or even his elusive parents. It reads really quickly and I found myself getting pretty sad once I was reaching the end!
A lot of people consider Evan Thomas’ biography on Bobby to be the most well researched and objective of books on him. I would have to agree on that, and he was given a lot of lee way into looking through the archives of the Kennedy Library, and he certainly “condemns” Bobby when he needed to be during certain periods of his life, while still maintaining a fair tone throughout the book. It’s really engrossing!
I still have yet to find a biography on Jack that I really like. When I do I’ll be sure to update this page if people are that interested./wall of text
I just wanted to say thank you so much for running this tumblr! The Kennedys are my favorite family, and there's no other source that continuously gives me pictures of them that i've never seen before! THANKS!!!!!!!
Aw, you’re very welcome! Running this Tumblr is very therapeutic for me, given I started it at a harsh time in my life and needed some kind of semi-productive distraction from everything going on in my mind. And what better subject to immerse yourself in than America’s most beloved political dynasty?
I remember seeing a picture of people on either a bus or subway and each of them were holding newspapers with JFK's face on the cover and headlines that say PRESIDENT SHOT DEAD or something similar. I want to find it again for a project I'm doing for school, but I can't! So could you help me there? :D
